Donald Trump – Most Criticized US President – An Indian View

In 2010, when Stone Cold Steve Austin stunned a billionaire businessman in WWE, he wouldn\’t have imagined, even in his stupidest fantasies, that he has stunned the future POTUS (President Of The United States).

Yes. The man he stunned, the 324th wealthiest man on the planet Earth is none other than the Time\’s Man of the Year 2016, Mr. Donald Trump.

US Presidents have always been the most scrutinized and criticized persons of the world. But, this was the first time a president-elect was criticized for almost every word that came out of his mouth.

Business:

Donald Trump who was born in 1946 and took up his family construction business grew with his aggressive business policies and take-overs. In 1982, he appeared on Forbes list of millionaires and despite suffering from losses in the early nineties, grew his business gradually and in 2016, he is estimated to have a net worth of 4.5 Billion.

Also, he was a host of TV series called \”The Apprentice\” which provided a test to aspiring entrepreneurs from any social status. Later on, he also actively indulged in WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) and was once stunned by Stone Cold Steve Austin as mentioned earlier.

Hence, Trump may be described as a person who enthusiastically participates in adventures and wants to have a hand at things that give popularity. By that assumption, it is no surprise that he decided to jump into the most adventurous sport of the world, \”US Politics\”

US Elections 2016:

Trump always had an interest in politics and he thought of joining the prestigious presidential race in 1988, 2004 and 2012 but, later chose not to. However, in 2015, he chose to participate in the presidential elections from Republican Party and announced the same from his Trump Towers. He also created his famous slogan,

\”Make America Great Again.\”

Trump participated in Republican Primaries which was the largest in American history with 16 candidates and on May 2016, won the Republican presidential candidateship with the highest margin.

From then on, America saw the ugliest campaign ever with Hillary Clinton, Democratic candidate and Trump fighting over every issue and throwing personal abuses over each other.

Trump even went a bit high by accusing Hillary as a criminal and that her place is in jail, once he wins.

After all the ups and downs of the long campaign, on November 8th, 2016, the whole world was taken back by surprise when Donald Trump had a massive victory and become the 45th President of United States.

Criticisms:

  • Anti-Muslim Policies:
    • Donald Trump is majorly criticized for his Anti-Muslim policies, even during the election campaign.
    • He openly spoke about how Muslim Terrorism is the biggest threat to the US and the whole world.
    • He even proposed denying entry for all non-US Muslims at a point of time, which he later took back.
    • After assuming the presidency, he banned visas for 6 months from 7 Muslim countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen)
    • He still continues to re-iterate the Anti-Muslim sentiments, which causes Anti-Muslim sentiments to grow in the country.

  • Foreign Relations:
    • Trump has always been open in his thoughts than most US presidents and this is causing nightmares in foreign relations.
    • Trump spoke with theTaiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, which is a violation of the treaty between US and China as the Chinese government doesn\’t recognize Taiwan government.
    • Trump had a call with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull regarding the US-Australia refugee deal made in Obama\’s period and Trump abruptly cut the call after a heated exchange of words between the leaders.
    • Right from the campaign times, Trump warned Mexico for the illegal immigrant\’s entry and even mentioned them as \”rapists\” and proposed to build a wall in US-Mexico border while sharing the cost with the Mexican government. He was hugely mocked for the idea and after assuming the presidency, he levied high taxes on Mexcian Imports as the Mexican government wasn\’t for the wall idea.

  • Indian Problems – H1B visa:
    • Donald Trump had univocal support from major parts of Indian right-wing organizations due to his Anti-Muslim stance and even Trump acknowledged India as a closest friend of the US during his campaign.
    • However, he was always hinting on his negative POV on H1B visa and how much he want to re-write the rules.
    • After assuming the presidency, Donald Trump\’s government has proposed an increase of minimum H1B annual wages to $130,000 from previous $65,000. When this bill is passed, this would affect many aspiring IT workers across India with US dreams.
    • Currently, Trump\’s government is scrutinizing the H4 work authorization, which let the spouses of H1B visa holders work in the US and even said to be in a plan to cancel the only hope of many H1B visa holders\’ spouses.

Our View:

Our world was separated without any unity for the larger period and when the globalization began, the world enjoyed the benefit of sharing ideas, resources, and technologies. After the world war I and II, we have grown in all possible fields because of this particular factor.

But, Trump along with many such leaders in different parts of the world, are starting a new era in deglobalization by twisted views of Foreign relations and wielding concept of nationalism as a weapon to achieve their ideologies. Unless the big brother\’s current President mends his ways and reinvents his ideas, then, this is a beginning of the end.

The end might be the end of Globalization and the re-emerging of nationalism.

The end could also be the actual end, hinted in the scriptures and by the pessimists for ages now.
