Kaatru Veliyidai – Trailer Review – Maniratnam, A.R.Rahman, Karthi
The man who understands love than the love itself is back again.
Mani Ratnam.
The man who gave us a movie on After-Marriage love as \”Mouna Raagam\” for the 80s, a movie on secret-marriage love as \”Alai Payuthey\” for the 90s and 2Ks and the same man who gave us a movie on live-in relationships as \”Oh Kadhal Kanmani\” in 2010s.
An out and out love story are what we wanted from him more than the actual classic like Nayagan, Thalapathi etc. And He is giving the same for us.
First things first, It is a bit difficult to accept Karthi in a clean shaved city guy look and its sometimes bordering towards awkward but, being an immensely talented actor working under one of the greatest movie directors ever lived, he should have done a great job we hope. Aditi Rao Hydari looks simple as in the case of most Mani sir heroines.
The film is set in a scenic background if snowy Kashmir and this is the second time for such location for Mani sir after Roja in 1995. With the technical advancements between 1995 and now shows clearly as we take a look at the breath-taking scenes and shots. The cinematography is impeccable and music is definitely pleasing and it is a no surprise coming from the Mozart of Madras, A.R.Rahman himself.
The film\’s premise seems to be the contemporary love story, as in the case of Mani Sir\’s movies and the setting is in the Airforce, which is very underused in Tamil cinema so far. The male and female protagonists are Squadron Leader in Airforce and Doctor respectively. The initiation, honeymoon period and the actual troubles between the couple seems to be the core plot.
We see Karthi and Aditi meeting in an Airforce dance club, if I may say so, like the same way Dulquer and Nithya met in Ok Kanmani in a church, with inaudible introduction dialogues. They seem to bond well and there are cute scenes of love like Karthi screaming the movie title, alias Bharathiyar\’s \”Kaatru Veliyidai Kannamma\” at the mountains and the echo followed by it. We also have extremely dangerous drive shots in the cliffs where the lead couple is saved by a whiff.
Also, we see a complete transformation of the scenes and some intense fighting scenes between the couple followed by Karthi saying in a psyche tone \”Nee ennai virumbratha vida, Naan unnai athigama virumbuven. Nee ennai veruthalum virumbuven. Nee ennai virumbalanaalum virumbuven\” ( Meaning: I will love you more than you love me. I will love you even when you hate me. I will love you even when you don\’t love me anymore.)
If it was some other director, we could have decided this is one another cliched story. But, making absolutely mind-blowing classics out of known stories or cliches is the forte of Mani sir.
So, we are waiting for the movie uncontrollably and what about you folks? What do you think of Karthi being the lead in Mani sir\’s movie? What about Aditi and her acting? Also, A.R.R music? Say in the comments section!
