Dragonstone Recap and Review | Game of Thrones | Season 7 | Episode 1 | Currently Globally TV series
After a long wait which seemed to be years together but, was only one real year gone, Game of Thrones is back and the dragons are back with it. And yes, White walkers are back to and this time they will be causing some real shit than just threaten and stare with their cold eyes (pun intended).
So, here is Currently Globally\’s review of the most expected Season 7 Episode 1 – \”Dragonstone\”
(Mind you.! Mild to complete spoilers ahead. Be away from it until you have watched the episode)
North Remembers:
The season premiere begins with the treacherous Walder Frey addressing his traitor clan, his sons, and grand sons altogether. But wait, wasn\’t Walder killed by Arya at the end of season 6? If that\’s the case, how is back from dead again?
As you think of the same for a split second, you know what really happened and who is actually there.
The young wolf. Arya Stark (Maisie Williams). Using her magical abilities to morph as dead Walder Frey and poisoning even Frey alive, who matters by ambushing them in the same manner Starks were ambushed.
As she completes her task in mind and leaves a shocked Frey girl as the witness, she utters the words that give you goosebumps.
\”The North Remembers!\”
Then, Arya is again seen with a band of Lannister Soldiers, sharing their food and drinking their homemade blackberry wine and surprise! surprise, we have the real Ed Sheeran there, singing a song about cold women and warm hands.
Actually, the Shape of you Singer\’s presence looks odd as every character out there is murderous or cunning or both and this guy looks like a too faithful lover with complete faith in humanity. But, Ed Sheeran fans rejoice! Our star singer is part of coveted GoT too.
The Wall:
As the famous and loved Game of Thrones theme music based on \”The rains of Castamere\” plays along with the opening credits, we realize it is finally here. The most loved GoT is back and you are said to \”Stop\”.
The army of dead led by the Night\’s King and a huge army with even the giants are shown and they look like a real dark-metal band but, with the ability to convert you their fan in a moment.
After all this, Bran Stark and Meera Reed enters the Wall as Dolorous Edd, the new lord commander of the Night\’s watch is initially suspicious leads them back into Westeros.
King in the north with a danger by side:
Now, we are back to heartthrob of the girls out there, Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) at Winterfell\’s main hall, along with Davos Seaworth, Brianne of Tarth, Petyr Baelish aka Littlefinger and Sansa Stark, addressing the fellow Stark Loyals about the importance of Dragonglass and the real imminent threat of the Army of the dead.
As he gives his instructions and his plans, he is interrupted by his half-sister/cousin Sansa and this time we really feel Sansa might do something stupid sooner or later. Her voice and tone reek of it and she might become an immediate threat to the new King in the North sooner, and all thanks to the cunning Littlefinger.
But, today is that day and Jon snow is strong and decisive and he is committed to his decision and the Umbers and Karstarks are saved and Ned Umber and Alys Karstark, the little boy and girl lords are happy about it too.
Oops. I left something really important. The fan favorite Lyanna Mormont is here and she is just something else. She even stops in between a lord, who is her great-grandfather\’s age and fights for equal rights for women and says, every boy and girl in Bear island would be training for fights. Damn.
In some minor events at the Winterfell, we have Jon and Sansa arguing about giving a head to Sansa\’s words and undermining of the new King in the North before others and finally, Sansa admires Cersei in her own way and has learned a great deal from her. Wrong teacher to keep I feel.
Also, Petyr Baelish has already begun his canvassing and Sansa looks strong, but we all know she isn\’t and we just hope the Stark reunion isn\’t caused damage anytime soon.
The evil queen and the changed brother:
We then witness the aftermath of the Tyrell assassination and Tommen\’s suicide as Jaime and Cersei Lannister speak to each other.
Cersei is every bit, err, Cersei. She is unchanged and actually has become mad and dangerous than before and I hope the new theory around about Jaime killing Cersei becomes true and Jaime looks more changed and composed and hell, this man\’s character arc from Season 1 has seen more bends than any hill station road.
Cersei then baffles Jaime by telling her alliance plans as there are enemies in north (Starks), south (Dorne, uff, they didn\’t show any Dornish today), west (Tyrells) and east (Khaleesi aka Daenerys) and her great grand plan is alliance with Euron Greyjoy, uncle of Theon Greyjoy and the new king of the Greyjoys.
Euron Greyjoy comes with 1000 ships and offers his alliance in return of marrying the queen Cersei and he even makes a jab about Jaime\’s crippled hand and to our surprise, his offer is denied by Cersei and he leaves empty-handed but with a promise to being a precious gift to Cersei to make her understand his honest intentions. We can just hope the gift isn\’t Arya.
New Lord of the Light follower:
We then see the Hound, Sandor Cleagane, with lord of the light followers, Dondarrion and Myr and they rest in an aloof house with skeletons of dead father and daughter, alleged to be committed suicide and Hound sees something in fire, about the Army of the dead and their imminent arrival to castle by the sea. This Brotherhood without banners might actually have a use here I guess, after all.
The truth behind Dragonstone.
Samwell Tarly lives a pitiful life of cleaning others shit and serving them food in similar looking plates for both and arranging the books in the library. Everything except what he was supposed to do – Learn about the Dead and white walkers.
He feels the same and he finally steals some books from the restricted library area and learns Dragonstone, the old seat of Targareans is made on a mountain full of dragon glass and this might be a great opportunity to build weapons specialized in killing the dead.
He sends a raven to Jon snow and very next day, he meets someone we believe is dead, Jorah Mormont secluded in the Oldtown in some patients area and asking \”Has she come yet?\”.
Dragonstone:
The episode, true to its name, finally ends with Daenerys Stormborn entering her ancestral castle, the castle where she was born – Dragonstone and to our surprise, the Dragonstone is unguarded and there isn\’t even a sweeper or cook.
She enters the castle with her new hand, Tyrion and her close associates, Lord Varys, Missandei, and Greyworm. And also, the dragons.
And the episode ends with Khaleesi looking at the map of Westeros and asking Tyrion,
\”Shall we begin?\”
Our verdict:
Do we need to spell it out? The characters who matter are all introduced, right from where they left at season 6 and officially, Game of Thrones is back and we loved living in the damn Westeros even for an hour.
We hope our loved characters live forever or at least till the end of the season. But, you know well, Valar Morgulis.
