Yatra | Tamil Inspirational Short Film Review | G Dinesh Raj | Obsessive Cinema Disorder (OCD Studios) | Currently Globally Best Short Films

How far do you go for your passion?

Do you have what it takes to be successful in your passion?

These questions blended with some harsh reality is what Dinesh Raj\’s Yatra is about. The short film is presented by OCD studios and music is composed by skilled Maria Jerald and Ganesh Paramahamsa takes care of the cinematography.

The Plot:

An aspiring photographer, who is deeply passionate about his love towards photography, goes through a lot of struggles to become successful. One fine day, in his Yatra (Journey), he gets a chance to capture the photograph of the year, a sad cow licking its master\’s hanging legs. A shot that shows the hunger, the love, and the reality.

But, is he really happy about the photograph, that took him to the heights? If not, why?

What we liked:

Undoubtedly, the first thing we loved in this short film would be, The exceptional shot of the cow licking its master\’s feet.

The Yatra song, \”Puthithai Piranthen\” is great to hear with exceptional Tamil lyrics in recent times and the director himself has penned the lyrics. Also, Maria Jerald\’s music and Sathish Kumar\’s vocals make the lyrics flow smoothly and the Thirukural at the end is the diamond on the crown.

Ganesh\’s camera work is very professional and the camera travels with the story, rather than trying to bring a distraction and for a short film like Yatra, such a cinematography and shot selection is a added bonus. For a film about photography, Ganesh has provided several screenshots of the short film which will look cool as a wallpaper.

Dialogues by Dinesh Raj has a certain intelligence and thought-provoking at places.

Locations used in the short film (Mostly Perambalur and area around) are very unique and unseen before in any recent short films or major movies. Also, the barren land that is shown before the cow shot, stands as a testimony to the famine. Kudos for such location selection.

Special mention to Saravanan\’s title design!

What we didn\’t like:

Due to the voice-over style of the short film, one might experience a lag after the beginning of the short film but, we do understand the scenes are necessary to establish the character.

Our verdict:

A short film that will touch you and will make you think. A short film that you would love and even better, relate to.

The Pain of life overrides joy to the point, where, joy doesn\’t exist!
