A few years back, I came across a short film called \”Maalai Neram\” uploaded by someone called Spidey Cool and directed by Dwarakhanath. P. It had a very basic premise of a school going teenager falling in love with a college-going guy and the guys initially resisting the girl\’s love owing to the girl\’s short stature and later on accepting it.
This simple story, despite the criticisms of misleading teenagers, impressed me due to two things. Saranya who acted as the lead female actor and her soulful, instantly likable performance and the whole treatment of the story. The light-hearted humor with a subtle message and cute love story.
Now, recently I came across the trailer of upcoming Tamil movie called \”Kadhal Kasakuthaiya\” and was instantly able to relate the trailer with Maalai Neram even before the scenes in the short film reappeared. Main reason again is, Dwarakanath who is known as Dwarakh Raja now and his treatment.
The trailer is presented in nonlinear format popularised by Christopher Nolan\’s Memento and the whole movie is cut into small pieces in reverse chronology. Venba who replaces Saranya as the lead female actor has the same charm and bubbliness required for a school girl in head-over-heels love. Dhruvva as the male lead gives his best and one of his friends deserves special mention due to his casual dialogue delivery and acting.
Dharan Kumar takes care of the music and already a single Complan Girl has released and is trending too. The whole trailer has got about 1.5 Million digital views and for a movie made with no big actors and in a shoe-string budget, this is a huge feat.
We wish Dwarakh Raja and his whole crew our best wishes and we sincerely hope, the movie doesn\’t mislead youngsters but, be a lighthearted romance with subtle messages in Dwarakh\’s own style.
