M. S. Dhoni – An Untold Story – Review | Hindi Movie Review | Currently Globally Cinema

M S Dhoni: The Untold Story is a movie which comes under the genre of biographical sports film, based on the life of the Indian Cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Like a tale, the movie depicts the life of Dhoni from a younger age through a series of events of his life. Written and directed by Neeraj Pandey, the movie is produced by Arun Pandey and is released by Fox Star Studios. The film stars Sushant Singh Rajput as Dhoni along with Disha Patani, Kira Advani and Anupam Kher in lead roles and it was released on September 30, 2016.

Watch out for the spoilers ahead if you have been in a coma for last 7 years.

The movie begins at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai when the ICC Cricket World Cup final 2011 (India v/s Srilanka) occurs. Dhoni watching the match live on the screen tells the authorities that he will bat next if a wicket falls, with the mindset of taking a crucial stand. Dhoni takes up his bat and leads down the stairs to the pitch amidst the scream of the crowd. Then is a flashback in Ranchi on 7 July 1981, the day which Dhoni was born and the tale continues.

In his childhood days, Dhoni was fond of football and never liked to play games of \’small balls\’. Later the sports master of his school finds his skill for wicket keeping, starts giving him training and there begins his cricket life. From there he started participating in many cricket matches in and out of the school and started to shine. But later Dhoni found his interest in batting and started learning batting tricks and styles from his seniors and playmates secretly because his sports master wanted him to concentrate in wicket keeping more rather than batting.

Once Dhoni got a chance to bat in a match and his \’helicopter\’ shot gave him the image of a hero. Step by step he achieved many hikes in his cricket career. In college too he continued to shine and after college, he got the job of a ticket collector in the railway in sports quota. Dhoni\’s father wanted him to continue in his job, rather than going behind cricket because of the middle-class condition of his home. But getting depressed and sad of the fact that he couldn\’t achieve his dream of playing in Indian Cricket team, he drops his job and comes back to cricket. Later he got selected for Indian Cricket team and there started his prosperous life. Meanwhile, Dhoni falls in love with a girl called Priyanka Jha, who was a cricket fan, whom he met on the flight. She died in an accident and the incident affected Dhoni\’s career and performance pretty much. Later after few years, he finds a girl called Sakshi and marries her.

More than just being a biopic movie, this movie is an inspirational story. Dhoni did not want to have a whitewashed story of his life to glorify him, instead, he wanted it to be the depiction of the journey of a professional sports person.

Sushant Singh Rajput has lived as M.S. Dhoni in the movie and he tries to imitate even the minute details of real Dhoni\’s body language and he succeeds in greatly. His dedication in acting can be understood by the fact that he was with Dhoni for more than a month to learn his body language. Disha Patani as Priyanka Jha, Dhoni\’s first love has become widely popular after the movie\’s release and she owes it to her beautiful smile and lithe frame and instantly likable acting.

The movie even has real struggles like Dhoni\’s captaincy and the gossips around many senior players being sacked and also, it provides a keen insight into the man who has made any critical decisions that you can write a book on decision making based on this man\’s decisions alone.

Interesting fact about the movie is that it received the widest release ever for a Bollywood film across 61 countries. The second fact is that 98% of the content in the film is reality and 95% of the locations are authentic which was shot mainly in authentic and real life locations where Dhoni spent much of his childhood and teenage years.

The movie is an outcome of the years of researches on Dhoni\’s life by many people and the several months of hard work and dreams of the cast and crew which and the movie worth watching.

Watch this movie to visualize he struggles even best sportsmen has to undergo in today\’s India and also, to witness one of the greatest turnaround stories in the world today.
