Racial comment on Indian-Origin US Spellbee winner? | Currently Globally Trending

A racial aspersion happened against the US Spelling Bee winner who is an Indian-origin Student Ananya Vinay who has roots from Kerala by the CNN channel anchor \’Alisyn Camerote\’. It was on last week, the famlhs Scripps National Spelling Bee contest took place in Washington DC. Ananya, who is the winner of the season was invited to have an interview with the CNN with the anchors \’Alysin Camerote and Chris Cuomo\’.

During the interview, Camerota asked Ananya to spell the famous word \’covfefe\’ from Trump\’s Twitter message. Ananya asked its definition and core language of the word. The girl sincerely tried to find the spelling and spelled it \’cofefe\’.  That time, Camerota said that the original spelling is \’covfefe\’ and \” so, we\’re not sure that its root is actually in Sanskrit, which is what you\’re probably, uh, used to using\”. Though the anchor Chris Cuomo praised Ananya\’s victory to the skies, Camerote\’s racist remark has made a wildfire protest in the social medias. The CNN anchor is being lashed out by the netizens for avowedly making a racist comment against Ananya Vinay, assuming that the 12-year-old girl is \”used to using\” Sanskrit due to her heritage.

Racism is been prevalent in the US since the colonial era. During the first phase it was against the Africans but later everyone who is not whites was a victim of it. Though \’Nelson Mandela\’, the former US president has abolished racism from the land of US, hiddenly or evidently it still prevails. Racism and Xenophobia have been experienced by the Indian American community, even as they remained silent to pacify the white counterpart. Families residing in India are feeling insecure about their children studying abroad. Even murders are happening based on racism. We have reports of many Indian Students shot dead at colleges of US due to racism. The bullying, racial discriminations are happening on and off campus and many other places as well.

The case of Ananya is the relevant proof for the still prevailing biased racist nature of the whites against those who are not whites and their wicked attitude of considering themselves the super power.

  1. Well-written article. However, I don't think, it's racial remark. Assuming someone speaks or knows a certain language shouldn't be construed as a racial remark. I would probably walk up to a white guy and start talking to him in English. If he yells at me, \”You assumed that I speak English, you racist bastard\” in a thick Russian accent, I would think that he is an idiot and ultra sensitive.
